Retinol and Retinal

Retinol and retinal belong to the same family — the difference is the path they take in the skin. Retinol first converts to retinal before it gets to work; retinal skips that step, so it shows results sooner.

If you are starting out, a low-strength retinol 1–2 evenings a week is the usual way in, building up gradually. Retinal is the step up once retinol feels routine.
